It should be possible to use extended ascii; I discovered this when I was studying icelandic... they have some quite different letters... æ Æ ø Þ þ Ø ð Ð

å : alt + 134
Å : alt + 143
ä : alt + 132
Ä : alt + 142
ö : alt + 148
Ö : alt + 153

Problem is the ascii tables aren't global; these are from the latin 1 (iso 8859-1) table, and the actual signs will differ - one might get chyrillian (spelling?) letters instead...

Languages

I don´t think you will find the letter ö on your keyboard, because it dont exist in english, the same goes for å and ä, so you have to use o, a and a instead
You should be able to open up the Control Panel folder - select Keyboard and choose the Language tab. From there click on the Add button to add another language to your keyboard - that's what I've done to write using Swedish characters. There's quite the list to choose from, including Icelandic Æð æ þ

The list you have active should show up on your bottom toolbar.
Please, now you have to let me know
Born and raised in Canada. Met a Swede here and followed her back home for 3 years (96-99). I taught English for a year in Sweden and then had to learn Swedish to talk to my in-laws, get a job, and to stop being so yank in walking around a foreign country without knowing the language. We now live in western Canada (Alberta) and I'm told fairly often to stop speaking Swedish to the kids (2 and 4) as I'm teaching them bad habits  (my wife refuses to read anything I've written on here in Swedish  ).

As an aside, it was funny to watch our boy when he was about 2 1/2-3 and figured out who could speak only Swedish, only English or both. We have a Norwegian friend here and our son knew that she spoke both Norwegian and English and that was fine, but one Swedish friend in particular had only ever spoken Swedish to him (much like morfar and mormor). She came over one day when there were other people (English speakers) visiting so when she came in she starting speaking English - his look said it all - "What!?! You can speak English as well?!?" Shortly after that his Grandpa (farfar) was visiting and we were telling my Dad this story and laughing. So, my Dad starts the next day off by speaking Norwegian to our son who replies - "Grandpa, inte kan DU snakke norsk!?" (Grandpa, you don't know how to speak Norwegian!? )

Alberta Season to date

Inlägg av Evan 2 Bucks »

Whitetails are my mainstay, although I've been spending more time lately looking for wolves (can't wait until we get some tracking snow here...). Whitetailed deer opened as early as Aug25 in some areas. Right around me in the foothills here it opened on Sept17, although there are a few zones that will open on Nov01 (I live at the crossroads of 6 zones). I already have one doe in the freezer and have been dragging out my season...(My son and I took a fellow and his boy out to shoot a doe this year - we were still busy unpacking juice boxes when the four-year-olds pipe up "why don't you shoot that deer Dad?". )

I still have tags for an Antlered Mule Deer, an Antlerless Mule Deer, a Whitetailed Deer, an Antlered Elk, two Black Bear tags, as well as one tag left for an Antlerless Whitetailed Deer. These are just the tags I have available to me in the zones just around home here. Moose are on a lottery system and I am still waiting for a tag around here rather than driving a few hours to go hunting for them. I didn't have the time to go for Bighorn Sheep or Pronghorn Antelope this year. I've shot one Coyote already, although they aren't quite prime yet. Waiting for snow for Fox hunting as they don't come in to the calls and so the only practical way to hunt them is to track them and catch them bedded down. I've shot some ducks, been on only one goose hunt, and have been out for Sharptailed Grouse, Ruffed Grouse, Spruce Grouse, and Blue Grouse this year (didn't make the hour drive to the mountains to go hunt Ptarmigan this year again). A lady I know gave me a tip about a Cougar she'd rather not have hanging around her yard so I might actually put some effort into getting that one this year (Dec01).

The dates above are all for rifle hunting as I haven't had my bow out at all this year :(

Nov01 - holidays are booked for the first three days of the deer season proper - sure hope it snows! :D

Now that we have a couple of Canadians on the forum I have a question: Could you recommend a good outfitter for blackbear? I´d like to visit Vancouver Island (was there once as a kid) but it seems a bit pricey. Alberta?

I was born in San Francisco but my parents moved back to the Finland in the early seventies, haven´t been back to NA since 1980 -would be nice to visit relatives in Canada AND do some hunting...

Welcome to Robbans!
