I got a new Blaser barrel in an 8,5X63 REB and here is a sample of my fireforming load. This fireforming load about duplicates the 338 Federal as it cronographed out at 2525 FPS.

I shot it about 150 times with three different powders and groups never exceeded much over an inch at 100 yards and most were in the .5 to .75 range. So far I am very pleased with the consistancy.

That is one hot looking round there Corjack and some really seriously good shooting too.

I belive that you are getting dialed in and are GTG with that Blaser of yours.

Could you tell me/us a bit more about the 8,5x63 REB round, I must say that I am a bit in the dark about it..

Best regards Chris

It's a 9,3x62 case necked down to .338 with a 40 degree shoulder.....I spoke with the "father" of this cartrige last december on a driven hunt in hungary 8)

I have exchanged emails with Werner Reb and he is very proud of his baby. He went to a lot of trouble to get the round CIPd and Blaser and Mauser list it on their websight. i had origanally thought it was a 338-06AI but the shoulder is moved forward more. The base size is the same as the 30-06. The closest description I came up with after looking at case dimensions was a 338-280 Remington AI.Brass with the right headstamp are available in Germany but nearly impossible for me to get my hands on so I am using 30-06 brass and intend to switch to 35 Whelen as soon as I obtain them. The round is very efficiant and should get within 100 fps of a 338WM with less powder and less recoil.

It shouldn´t be impossible for you to find oncefired Norma 9,3x62 brass here on Robsoft

US customs makes you jump through hoops of fire to bring in stuff like brass and ammo. I have a good supply of 9.3X62 brass and tried a couple, I did not like the amount of squeeze the dies did to the web area of the head of the case. Herr Reb recommends 35 Whelen brass and those are available from Remington. I purchased 250 of those yesterday.

I shot a raccoon last year. Seemed pretty effective.
